Court Case for Assault on Fare Inspectors: Confrontation involving Youthful Duo - A couple stands trial for assaulting ticket inspectors
In Berlin, a young couple is standing trial at the Regional Court, facing charges for a violent incident that occurred three years ago at a bus stop. The defendants, a 24-year-old man and his 22-year-old partner, are accused of assaulting and kicking two fare inspectors.
The incident began when the 24-year-old man attempted to flee during a fare inspection at Wittenbergplatz. A 47-year-old inspector tried to detain him, but the man allegedly struck and kicked the inspector. The woman, who was also present, is accused of using pepper spray during the scuffle.
The 47-year-old inspector suffered severe injury to his right eye as a result of the attack and is now blind in that eye. The prosecution charges the defendants with dangerous and severe bodily harm, aggravated robbery, and insult.
The 47-year-old inspector testified about the incident, stating, "I was just doing my job." A witness also corroborated the account, saying, "I saw the man strike the inspector."
The defendants initially remained silent about the allegations but have since expressed remorse. The 24-year-old man, during the trial, said, "I'm so sorry about your eye."
The prosecution claims the defendants decided to use violence to avoid paying an increased fare. The trial will continue on September 16. The outcome of the trial could dramatically change the lives of the defendants and the 47-year-old inspector, whose life has been significantly impacted by the incident.
